WOPHA partners with 1854 Media, publishers of the British Journal of Photography, to present the exhibition Female in Focus

WOPHA / 10.04.2021

A newly-formed partnership with 1854 Media, a multi-award-winning digital media organization with a global community of photography lovers and publisher of the British Journal of Photography, brings the highly-anticipated exhibition of works by its winners 2021 Female in Focus photography competition to Miami for the first time.

The Female in Focus exhibition will be co-curated by Aldeide Delgado, WOPHA Founder and Director based in Miami, and Héloise Winstone, 1854 Media & British Journal of Photography’s Award Production Manager based in London. Taking place at the new Green Space Miami gallery on the eve of Art Basel Miami Beach, the exhibition will be presented as part of the cultural programming of the WOPHA Congress.

The Female in Focus’s international photography award was conceived to address gender inequality in the industry and bring awareness around the ever-growing issue. Its purpose is to discover, promote and reward exceptional women and non-binary photographers all over the world. The exhibition presents 22 award-winning artists and 40 artworks.

Each year the award is judged by leading international women in photography. This year WOPHA’s founder and director is part of the esteemed judges alongside Joanna Milter, Director of photography for the New Yorker; Adama Delphine Fawundu, Visual Artist & Co-author of MFON: Women Photographers of the African Diaspora; Anahita Ghabaian-Etehadieh, Founder and Director of Silk Road Gallery; Emmeline Yong, Co-Founder and Centre Director of Objectifs and Anna Fox, Photographer and Director of Fast Forward: Women in Photography. This panel of international judges will select 20 single images and two bodies of work (consisting of ten images each) exploring a broad and diverse selection of narratives.

Female in Focus welcomes all attendees and scholars from the Congress, international visitors, and residents to explore the art form of photography by women from November 18, 2021 – January 18, 2022.

The WOPHA Congress will take place at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and online, November 18 and 19, 2021, and is free and open to all.

Female in Focus in Miami is made possible thanks to the support from MPB, Green Family Foundation, Green Space Miami, and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, and the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of county commissioners.
