Support WOPHA on Give Miami Day 2020!

WOPHA / 11.12.2020

WOPHA calls on the community for support on Give Miami Day 2020, hosted by The Miami Foundation as part of its mission to promote philanthropy throughout Greater Miami.

Donations made to WOPHA through Give Miami Day will support the inaugural WOPHA Congress – a two-day symposium presented in partnership with Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation – that seeks to create a place for photography in Miami and advances the mission of WOPHA to research, promote, support and educate about the role of women-identified subjects in photography.

Give Miami Day is one of the largest annual online giving events in the Southeast United States. As is the case with countless other organizations, the pandemic has been greatly disruptive to our work. The recent COVID-19 emergency funding that we were fortunate to receive from The Miami Foundation was instrumental in enabling the continuation of our plans, but we still need support. As part of the Give Miami Day initiative, all donations between $25 and $10,000 made to WOPHA during the giving period will be partially matched by The Miami Foundation through bonus funds. Anyone across the globe can participate and make a gift online!

We ask you to participate and maximize your generosity by making your gift at Give Miami Day starting Monday, November 16 at 12:00 am through Thursday, November 19 at 11:59 pm. To further enhance your giving, consider making your donation to WOPHA during the Arts Culture, and Humanities “Power Hour”—from 7:00 pm through 8:00 pm. on Thursday, November 19— when donations will be further amplified with additional bonus dollars.

The mission of WOPHA is rooted in the use of photography as a medium to rewrite the artistic canon and as a political force to rearrange the structures of power and domination. Given the current socio-political climate, WOPHA’s mission and the values we espouse are especially timely and relevant to strengthening the dialogue on social justice and the role that diversity and equality play in cultural discourse.

We thank you for joining us on our quest to render visible the historical contributions of women photographers and fostering career opportunities for their present counterparts.
