Announcing Sebastian Diaz-Herrera as inaugural Curatorial Fellow
WOPHA / 08.12.2025
WOPHA is pleased to announce Sebastian Diaz-Herrera as Curatorial Fellow. A Venezuelan-American art historian and recent magna cum laude graduate of Florida State University with a BA in art history and a minor in museum studies, Diaz-Herrera is a contemporary feminist and Latinx scholar. He has presented his written research at symposia and attended multiple conferences, ranging from educational seminars at the Prado Museum in Madrid to conversations on queer embroidery at the SUNY New Paltz Art History Symposium. Sebastian has worked in both the museum and non-profit space as a gallery assistant at LeMoyne Arts in Tallahassee, Florida, and as a curatorial/project intern for the 2024 WOPHA Congress. Sebastian aims to spend his career highlighting the glaring gaps in artistic representation towards queer women and eliminate traditional misconceptions that pertain to Latinx culture, heritage, and lifestyle.
As Curatorial Fellow, Díaz-Herrera will work closely with WOPHA’s leadership to develop and deliver WOPHA Institute programs, support the curation of exhibitions, and contribute to ongoing research initiatives. He will engage directly with artists, curators, scholars, and cultural partners, helping to expand WOPHA’s role as a meeting place for the international photography community and strengthening our connections across Miami, the Caribbean, and beyond.
The WOPHA Curatorial Fellowship offers early-career curators hands-on professional experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to work within a globally connected organization. Fellows gain access to WOPHA’s international network of artists, scholars, and partner institutions, fostering innovation, critical thinking, and curatorial excellence.
