We launched Photowalks at Miami Design District (MDD) led by women photographers

Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA), in partnership with Miami Design District (MDD), present Photowalks, a series of free, bilingual, photography-based walking workshops. Led by guest women photographers who guide participants to photograph iconic historical and creative Miami neighborhoods, the new Photowalks program invites the public to bring and use their own cameras to explore the rich imagery, public artworks, landmarks, and people of the Miami Design District. During each thematic session, participants will learn tips and techniques from an experienced photographer, as they build visual literacy skills by sharing their photographs and comments on Instagram with the hashtags #PhotowalksatMDD.

• Photowalks sessions occur on the second Saturdays of each month. 
• Pre-registration for the free program is required.
• Participants must bring their own camera (or alternately use their camera-phone). 
• Wearing a facemask is mandatory.

Following the mission of WOPHA, Photowalks highlights and gives opportunities to women working in photography. Selected artists have a keen interest in engaging with and teaching audiences, while guiding them to see and experience their city through photography. Two artist facilitators will be selected and scheduled on a rotating basis to cover the immersive workshops.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

Passion J. Ward is a Miami-based creative portrait photographer whose practice includes branding, lifestyle, family, and event photography. Following the personal belief that artistic expression knows no boundaries, Ward gains insight and understanding of the world around her by photographing people and capturing their expressive nuances, uninhibited moments, and uniqueness.

Amanda Björn is an artist and curator interested in the connection between bodies and space. She works in images, music, films, and movement seeking to build relationships with the fragile world around us. She is currently leading photography and art trips for women artists in various locations in Latin America — Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, and Panama. Amanda received her BA in Art History and Photography from Loyola Marymount University and a Master’s Degree in Art and Curatorial Practices in the Public Sphere from The University of Southern California. Her work has been published in Teen Vogue, Livefast Magazine, Urban Outfitters, Nasty Gal, Vice, Rogue, Cake Mag, Huffington Post, Passion Passport, Aire Magazine, among others.
